Yesterday, Opower celebrated the launch of our first international program and partnership with independent UK utility supplier, First Utility. The program, called my:energy, will reach 100,000 First Utility customers via home energy reports, emails and an interactive web portal. First Utility was the first energy supplier in the UK to roll out smart meters to all of its customers.

Our President Alex Laskey joined First Utility CEO Ian McCaig to talk about the Opower program and the benefits that it will provide to customers in the UK.

In April, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg highlighted the my:energy program in a speech on the green economy. He said, “From the summer, we’ll be trialling a new project with First Utility and America’s Opower… Working with U.S. utilities, Opower has helped encourage American households to reduce consumption by around 2%… We want to see what the same approach could achieve here.”

If the Opower program was deployed to every household in the UK, it could save customers more than £1.7 billion on their energy bills over three years.
