San Francisco Mayor Lee helps Opower open up new office space

In 2010, Opower decided to open up our second office in San Francisco in order to tap into the wealth of talent in the city. We quickly outgrew our initial office space, and found a new home earlier this year. The San Francisco office now has over 55 employees, ranging from engineers, product managers, designers, and part of our sales team.

To celebrate the new office, space, Opower President Alex Laskey joined San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and PG&E VP of Customer Engagement Solutions Steve Malnight.

Mayor Lee has been a huge advocate for clean energy and innovation and it was great to have him at the office to meet the team and show him some of our new products that we are developing, including our social app.

Opower’s San Francisco office will add another 20+ employees this year. We are always looking for smart, motivated and interesting new people. Check out our job postings.

In this video, you’ll hear Dan talk about the yearlong adventure he and his wife took from the arctic coast in Alaska to the southernmost tip of South America and how it inspired him to create a company that would help save a terawatt hour of energy in its first 5 years.

Saving 1 terawatt-hour, enough energy to power 90,000 homes

In May, Opower reached an exciting milestone: with our utility partners, including National Grid, PG&E, ComEd, Consumers and NSTAR, we saved customers 1 terawatt hour (TWh) of energy. One TWh is essentially enough energy to power a city of 200,000 people for an entire year.

To celebrate, we visited a National Grid customer’s home to learn more about how the Opower platform has saved her money and energy. Jane Mengesha spoke to Opower President Alex Laskey, National Grid President Marcy Reed and Massachusetts Lt. Governor Tim Murray about steps she has taken to increase the energy efficiency of her home.

What’s even more exciting is that by the end of 2012, we will save another TWh of energy.
